Another week, another famous person saying stupid things that tell me they either don’t realize that intersex people exist, or they’re just trying to ignore us.

On December 13, the world’s richest man and general garbage human sent out the following tweet on the platform-formerly-known-as-Twitter:

Oh, you wealthy, wealthy dummy.

Of course, he’s trying to attack transgender people including his own daughter. But transgender women are women.

Also, there are plenty of cisgender women who, for one reason or another, have undergone hysterectomies. Guess what, Elon? They are still women.

And finally, yes, this is The Intersexion, so I’m going to talk about some of the intersex variations that occur in which a child is born a girl without a womb. That means that they grow up to be women without wombs.

Born without the ability to respond to androgen, these children (particularly born with Complete AIS) are born with a vagina that ends without a uterus. They are also born with undescended testicles.

These are girls born with XY chromosomes, which are phenotypically what males are born with. While they are born with a vagina and a uterus, they are born without ovaries or testicles, meaning that can never have children.

These girls are born with ovaries and an outwardly “normal” vagina, but upper vagina, uterus, and cervix either do not form properly or are utterly absent.

Children born with chimerism have a mix of XX (female) and XY (male) cells, leading to a variety of physical changes from the binary, including a lack of uterus in some children who present as female.

And yes, there are others. Mosaic chromosomes can lead to a lot of different physical variations including wombless women.

So, what can you do when famous people spout off with ridiculous claims with no basis in reality or science?

Well, it’s social media. Don’t just scroll on by. Comment. Refute it. Call out lies and intersex erasure where ever you see it. We intersex folks are few, and we need all of you to help raise our voices to the sky.
