New Book and Big Events!

Yes, folks, we have a release date!

January has come and gone. For the faithful fans of the Jayu City Chronicles, you might be wondering where book three is. After all, both The Hermes Protocol and Necropolis Alpha came out in January 2023 and 2024.

I now have an answer for you…

The Cordelia Solution, coming August 19, 2025

Elise Corto-Intel is a thief. In a city without laws, it’s a job like any other. She’s slowly learning that part of her job is being a spy, too. After failing to stop a rival thief named Tazia who was masquerading as an evangelical preacher, Elise must go undercover in a rival corporation to stop the next phase of Tazia’s plan.

The balance of power between the five companies that dominate Jayu City is at stake, but that’s not all. If one company falls to another, they’ll all fall, and their cultures will be subsumed. What’s more, Gloria, sister to the next CEO of Kotega Systems, is pulling at Elise’s heart. But in deep cover, Elise can’t let on that her love and partner is back home in Corto Corporation.

Aided by her apprentice and the rogue AI named Bastion, can Elise unravel the dangerous plot, keep her cover in a company dominated by honor, and keep herself from falling in love with the wrong person?

Stay tuned here and to my various social media accounts for a cover reveal and preorder links once they’re available.

Upcoming Events

I have three big, bookish events on the horizon. Two are local to me in Kansas City, while the third is taking me to Chicago.

Boozy Book Fair - February 22

“Welcome to the Not-Your-Kid's Scholastic Boozy Book Fair, in partnership with the Kansas City Booksellers Association!”

Planet Comicon - March 21-23

“Planet Comicon Kansas City is the region's largest pop culture and comic book event, returning to Bartle Hall on March 21-23, 2025!”

C2E2 - April 11-13

“Comics, cosplay, gaming, authors, and anime abound in the only pop culture convention in the heart of Downtown Chicago!”

Buy tickets, come say hello, and buy a book or four!

The Intersexion with Chris M. Arnone

You may have noticed that you received another email from me last week. In light of the current administration’s attempts to erase intersex people, I’ve launched a new newsletter called “The Intersexion with Chris M. Arnone.” Everyone subscribed to this newsletter was automatically subscribed to that one.

While I truly hope that you stick around for The Intersexion, Substack will allow you to unsubscribe from that newsletter while staying subscribed to this one. No promises that I won’t occasionally talk about intersex issues in this space, too, but I want to make sure you know that you have options.

Reading

What have I recently read or currently reading?

I’m currently (finally) reading James by Percival Everett. Yes, it’s as good as everyone says. I’m also listening to the audiobook for Those Beyond the Wall by Micaiah Johnson, the sequel to the sublime The Space Between Worlds. I’m digging it so far. I recently finished The Hunter by Tana French, which was a slow letdown from The Searcher. And I enjoyed both Warcross and Wildcard by Marie Lu.

What are you reading and loving?
