Necropolis Alpha arrives and other musings for January
New year, new book, and onward we go
It’s been far too long since I’ve written here, hasn’t it?
Maybe I can blame it on holidays or the ramp-up to the release of Necropolis Alpha or just life generally getting in the way, but it’s past time for an update.
Necropolis Alpha

The second book of The Jayu City Chronicles, Necropolis Alpha, officially release on January 23. It lives! The early feedback has been pretty good, even if mostly by word of mouth so far. If you snag the book and give it a read, please remember to review it or at least drop a star rating on Amazon, Goodreads, or wherever you can.
Seriously, those ratings and reviews and SO IMPORTANT to new authors. They help us build a following.
I had two launch events last weekend, one at Beaverdale Books in Des Moines, IA and another at Afterword Tavern & Shelves in KCMO. You can watch a recorded livestream of my event at Beaverdale on their Facebook page.
Onward into Jayu City
Of course, I’m still hard at work on the next book in the series. I’d been a much harder book to write than the previous two. Why? Partly because the next volume is seeing Elise significantly out of her element. And if she’s out of her element, then I’m out of those elements, too.
I’ve also been struggling with the daily habit of writing over this past year. There’s no particular reason. Sometimes the words just flow easily and draw me to the keyboard like gravity. Sometimes, like this past year, it’s harder. The last couple weeks have felt better, though, getting me back in the flow. With any luck, I’ll be able to put the next book in front of my wife (and alpha reader) by the end of this month.
Looking Ahead
Where else can you find me? What else am I working on?
I’ll be at Planet Comicon in Kansas City in early March along with a few other authors from Metamorphosis Literary Agency. I’ll be at our table and speaking at a couple of panels, too. So come by and nerd out with me!
Here in Kansas City, my dear friend Katie G has launched The 1994 Project. It’s a series of staged film readings and music events all focused on 1994, which is now 30 years old. Mind-blowing, yes.
I’ll be doing a couple of script adaptations for True Lies and The Crow. I’ll also be appearing in some of them throughout the year. So far, I’ll be the henchman in Dumb & Dumber and Silent Bob in Clerks. These readings are so much fun. They’re love letters to the movies while also taking the piss out of them. They’re absolutely ridiculous.
And of course, I have other writing irons in the fire that I’m not ready to talk about.
That’s all for now. Until next time, happy reading!
